INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION 4 : our goodHUBSguide awards for 2020 startupgrind and zoomuni- started in london 2005 year of make poverty history hubbers thank klaus schwab for extending a week long skiing for leadership hunt to 4 cities linking in humansai- san framcisco, tokyo, beijing, delhi- it was a pity that those who met at san francisco in 1945 chose one way to un just the atlantic belt roads not asia pacific beltroads too- after all two thirds of humans live on the asian continent and it was the british english mindset which trspun slavery and povery traps across the old world- born to a scottish veteran who served his last days as a teen i would exist without the kindness of americans stopping the old world from 2 global wars but that doesnt mean enough americans understood diversity of colred skinned original continents of asia or africa in 1945 -any un curriculum in american schools needed to connect california with maps of asia, west asia landbridge to africa not just the vanities of the western g6 representing less than 10% of people lives- these inequalities were an accident of how the first 18 decades of humans and machines spread- if only what glasgow u's watt and smith started up in 1760s had spread as efficiently as nature's virus- this is a terminal reminder that man's globalisation is broken wherever it fails exinction-testing rules of bottom-up and open not trumpian top down and bordered

Main reason for optimism is leapfrogging - thats when a society/place that was excluded from industrial age networks leapfrogs an old system to a new one thanks to 1000 times more COMstech than 1946; about a third of the world never had wired telephone lines, now almost all have mobile (text version); more than a quarter of the world never had electricity grids, now microsolar is linking in;. Even as the 1960s moon race inspired the world, we need to understand how unequal the opporttunity to innovate had been - even in the 1960s as many as half the world's people had no access to electricity grids so they got their news of the moon race by word of mouth.

Consider 1000-1500- until the last few years of this period , the known world was Europe-Asia and NE Africa; #BR8 the med sea was the main world trade waterway; places facing this sea increasingly developed win-win trades; moreover #BR7 the west asian border to med sea was the start of an amazing overland relay of traders which stretched all the way to china (the silk road was the greatest overland world trade route ever and to sustain its interfacing markets required positive cross-cultural bridging all along its route. Silks and spices from the Chinese end acted like a positive currency- there was much demand for them whose value naturally went up the further they were merchanted back to Europe. Everyone gained for this trading route- you can read marco polo's diaries- perhaps nowhere invested more in artistic celebrations of being a major hub of positive trade than his hometown venice in europe and the town he was asked to govern for 2 years in china Hangzhou which marco described as the great town of markets in the world.)

What happened towards 1500 that 2 long shipping routes were discovered by north europeans- the new world of the ameriucas to the west (#BR6 N, #BR10 what we now call Latin America), and a way of reaching the @BR2 South Asian coastal Belt (starting with the indian subcontinent) by sailing around africa. A ship captain couldnt affird such a long return voyage unless he goit what trade he wanted- soon this big ships were equipped with gun power and crews were pressganged or even enslaved. Next in the process was colonising. So it was that nations became big by pludering economies of other peoples places. Back in 1500 places economic size was corelated with population. Soon Britain grew at the expense particularly of the Indian subcontiuent. Mainly Britain and France colonised Africa too, Spain andPotrtugal colonised Latin America. North America was settled by a mixyure of Europeans whose declaration of Indendence in 1776 ended any attempt by Britain to colonise America, But we should note that the USA was built on a sort of internal colonisation - natives had theor places taken over and slaves were used to do most of the hard labour. In effect the old war's colonial ways casued the 2 world wars of the fkirst half of the 20th C. From 1946 most of the world's countries regained their independence but starting from (mainly undeveloped states - poverty that the colonia era had gtraped them in).

Ironically whule the UDA came to tghe resuce of the old workld and from 1946 helped relaunch the two biggest losers of world war 2 Germsny and Japan, american (not withstandiong thair family trees origins) had previously had little modern of knowledge of Eurasia but were pulled into peacekeeping and the cold war with russia through the sceond half of the 20th C. Whilst there was some understanding of the extraoerdinary progress japanese enginers made with electornics, civil and other enginnering, the rise and rise of the east and the often difficult bodrers that had been caused by British and Jpoanese colonisation of the region are not deeply studied by most Americans or their media. It should be the best news the world has ever seen that the fifth of the world in chjna tghat closed itself to the world for more than a centiry after Brfits has offered opium as a gtrading currency in 1860 is now as entrepreneurial as anywhere. With over half of tghe world's ;people facikng either the sout asia or east asia coastal belts, the opportunity the east is cfreating to win0pwin gtrade oin line with moore's ever increasing technology should make sustainable youth worlwdie the gfreatesty positive curency-invetsment the human race has ever mapped. But this is not how USA or the block of coungtriues ruled by the Euro have marketed transapfrently. Instead we are caught in the Keynsian crisis of economist not valuing the hippocratic oathes he had published as tghe final chapter of the ngeneral throy of employment money and interest. The 2020s are likely to make the system designs our tech spreads irreversible- will the end game be big brother extinction or little sister sustainability?

May 13 Jinping hosts biggest development summit beijing has ever seen - its on infrastructure investments everywhere in superports and super-rail -jim kim is attending - as far as i can see nobody representing baltimore or maryland- I dont know who in our region is lead advocate for japans super-rail making baltimore 15 minutes from DC (and 45 from New York)- we know the beijings top university students studying this worldwide agenda because last week the former head of European on and fathers friend Roman Prodi spent the whole week pitching Italy's interests and my chinese translators and I accompanied him to all his public meetings  I will be in beijing connecting what students i can and developing rachel connections- getting students to say their startup projects in one minute videos the same way mit starts up every student entrepreneur year.

This infrastructure summit is the infrastructure side of the supercity strategies whose parallel sides are technology and architecture/cultures/property development. Is Baltimore-DC to be a signature smart city in same league as china's or not. If it inst seriously will USA have any city particpating in world class league of urban supercities- happy to work on whichever is usa target supercity if we have decided it wont be dc-baltimore.

Until i know which is america lead urban supercity i cant interview everyone i know in europe to linkin some european supercities for inclusivity of all youth not just the rich get richer. Because of Brexit

On May 18 in DC, kissingers 100 network on maintaining positive relations with china have their annual summit in DC- of course we still dont know whether Xi Jinping's family's 2 days with Donald Trump's family in Florida is enough to prevent trump from random decision-makings. Most irreversible of all is North Korea- the nation that Jim Kim's family immigrated from. US media is absolutely evil in its coverage of trump and north korea - in other words there are only 3 voices of sanity for trump on this issue - jim kim, kissinger, and jinping himself. Does Hopkins have for example any members of physicians against nuclear - friend ira hefland runs that. He probaly knows Fred Davis (Rosa Parks lawyer) because I met him in Atlanta when we all thought we were linking in the future of black students to the goals of cnn ted turners (billion dolar sponsor of un foundation) president carter including atlanta's new rights museum, luther king family, friends of mandela, 15 nobel peace laureates including my friend muhammad yunus girls empowerment top storyteller. Yunus had a fulbright to van de bilt the year segregation ended and his first professorship was east tenessee it had been hoped black youth were his number 1 connection in usa especially as the founders of shorebank were his friends and obama was the community builder of south chicago, and yunus mum had been influential in indonesia's womens microcredit in the 1980s as this interview with jim kim clarifies Hacking the World Bank Full Transcript - Freakonomics

The really big deadline is around 1 August. This is when the G20's preparation for a year gets handed over to argentina- the greatest opportunity for franciscan values youth and sustainability goals solutions to be included. G20 is the action networking space that China has invested in - its answer to all UN sustainability goal collaborations. So much so that Jinping's main biographer in DC at brookings ranks a meeting between jinping and pope francis as one of the top 5 goalps of jinping over the next 18 months. If Baltimore helps incubate argentina g20 projects of sort that make pope francis and jim kim proud, then we are well set for the india g20 technology summit in 2019, and AliBabas arts olympics 2020 tokyo

When it comes to technolpgy partnership, green investments, education jack ma is the pivotal character - he's been asked by jinping to identify china's 50 most conscious and smart digotal savvy business entrepreneurs. Ma has promised trump that he will partner enough regions in usa to start up 1 million small enterprises. Again there is no evidence that i can find that any ambassador from

Girls empowerment movenments - the knowledge of the 81 year old sir fazle abed is absolutely critical- all of bangladesh and so extreme end female poverty goes with his work. There is no true usa guardian of this knowledge because microcreditsummit (includig the gteat and the good of networks of clintons and queen sofia and prince charles) spent 16 years on yunus pr not on real understanding of bangaldesh development model. Sir Fazle hosted 2 remembrance parties to my father with japanese embassy. If there is anyone most concerned with ultra poverty girls whom you know it would treally help to understand how to connect them with sir fazle now. China itself cannot end all the deepest girls urban/vilage challenges without being linked in to this

additionally brac university's cor program is its James Grant Program and world class faculty My family's friends in UK include sir keith peters former head of royal society of medicine and whose team at cambridge university won the nobel prize for mapping genome

How fast if at all will phoning round mayors partnerships happen
How fast if at all will our core tech wizards start hunting out more tech wizards of big data small
Will john mackeys conscious connections with 2000 student unions partner with us
Will any of the people in dc who could gain from baltimore being there within usa space (kim , leonsis, stev case, others) join in

Amy's life purpose- she connect s so many under 30s youth networks that need a us youth exchanges home but ultimately without a visa sponsoring route in baltimore she will have to choose somewhere else. There remain several other chinese translators etc who can linkin chinese youth without needing a visa but the multipliers are 10 times greater if we could have sorted may's visa issue

there are so many simple business- china needs one city when it can send students of all ages to fast learn english- so easy for that to be included in baltimore cultural and arts makeover now if eg kiehls and your arts partnerships are accelerating

jokingly but seriously i often tell john kiehl that mit is the most exciting place in the world to tour because you can do a square mile walk and see the future of every industry

why cant we do something on a smaller scale in baltimore - eg if we could get property for 7 tech garages almost next door to each other that any urban city should want to tour what would they be or what would baltimore business leaders want to showcase a s future of health, sporting apparel etc

in some cases we already have world experts' garages thanks to eg jayfus's networks; in at least one case the garage could be more of a travel agency to garages around the world - one way of making sure every tech for good wants an association with baltimore (i would also recommend a garage inviting students to map out how to make learning eg second languages 10 times cheaper) that would help make baltimore chinese youth's favorite place in usa

why alec- he's just brought out one of the simplest books on the future of industry- its got the right spirit -ie change big data analysis from being used just to advertise to experiment with social solutions

he lives in baltimore- he is now employed by hopkins after previously being part of hilary/obama innovation cabinet
