Dear Audrey -yes please chat with mostofa- just spent a week at brac with him debating related issues- after my father died brac's leader sir fazle abed and japans ambassador to tokyo chaired a 2012 roundtable on the post-yunus future of bangladesh girl power, and last week was my 6th annual update on socialtech agendas sir fazle wished his 100000 educators to linkin
Could i summarise a few action/idea opportunities which are urgent to see which may fit your goal which i understand from the wonderful presentation you made at world bank as maximising coding skills base of africa/kenyan youth (i do know the secretariat of kenyas second lady - happy to intro you if that would help but i have to admit i dont feel i understand politics in kenya- i used to be a huge fan of ingrid munro's jamii bora and mpesa but both seem to have lost their deepest goals - fortunately bangladesh's www.bkash.com accesses skills of nick hughes vodaphnes original project leader of mpesa)
my father and i wrote a book in 1984 back from future of 2025 (which gordon dryden's The Learning Web - Home Page became the only lifelong practitioner of ) :
|
By 2025 sustainbility would require total transformation of livelihoods rich education and valuing girl empowerment
1 children of every age needed to understand coding or at least how to form teams imagining what coding could do regarding 3 billion new jobs
1a conversely once practised in coding many youth from early adolescence up would be better off outside classroom (lifelong learning should mean everyone is both teacher and student )
2 the other main experience children needed before leaving school concerned confidence in self and how to joyfully host co-creativity startup networks -open space being the practice skill set to start with
i believe connecting girl coding educators across africa china india and bangaldesh is urgent in next 14 months up to China's second Belt Road summit in beijing
mostofa from bangladesh villages and i have been looking at sustainability challenges to youth for 11 year joined by chinese amy from mao's vilages since 2013
right now there are several huge scaling possibilites
1 the simplest way would be if mostofa and you can exchnage views with brac's director of education - if he wants to see you to decide whether there are synergies between what you want to do, brac girls adolescent clubs in 7 african and 7 other countries, and how he can ask wise to include agenda at wise, un and paris -that's the most valuable thing to do in the next 4 weeks that i can imagine
2 we are organising various trips to china to connect with peoplelike these but i still havent found which educator will open the door to everyone- if we could get 1 established then connections between brac and china's girls networks are the biggest missing link in the east particularly as they could then include india which is javeeds main space- i am sure there must be come great emerging coding schools in india - javeed have you found best starting place?
3 mostofa is reconnecting with taddy blecher who founded south africa free university and mandela extranet and whom google africa developed coing curricula with - if we can check that and brac leads out in parallel that may give us more to swap with ghana unless someone already feels they know who to make our forst connection in ghana.. now zuma is gone its a chnace for BRICS and south africa and all transparent african nations to fly
